Yo cuz, restaurant week 08’ was everything I hoped it would be this year and that’s because I started it off on the right foot wit Ruth’s Chris in Center City Philadelphia. Now I had Tina wit me from down da street and dis bartender “Fonzie” Ray Bolger I know from aronacawna. Now “Fonzie” is a bit of a drinker and a throw back from lets say da 50’s. But he is allright. Truth be told, I like to put them back as much as da next guy (which was “Fonzie”) and dis event was no exception. Well…. as usual my dinner dates was running late (or not coming at all) so I decided to part da seas of people already drinking at the bar to grab one for myself. Soon as I walked up a couple was just getting up out of their seats to vacate da premises. Much to the dismay of da people standing around me, I took both seats up at the bar with my huge rump. After a couple waves wit my twenty dollar bill (I am a big shot) I was able to score myself a dewers on da rocks. Ruth’s Chris was busy for a Monday and well it was restaurant week so I suppose they should be. After slamming down two more drinks “Fonzie” and Gina showed up and we hit a booth. On a side note, I had to go handle little thing for my buddy “Fonzie” right after we sat down. He drops dis bombshell on me that some guy over there waiting tables owes him a few bucks for a 10 speed or somethin from a few years back. Well, Tina got to tellin him I was into “collections” so I felt obligated at dat point to tap my new waiter friend on da shoulder when “Fonzie” hit da can. Turns out dis crumb turned out to be a nice guy, so nice he let me grab a $100 from his apron; $50 for “Fonzie” and $50 for me. So after 5 minutes of work, I got my act together and sat myself down to order my meal. Da table started wit some Seared Ahi Tuna, Veal Osso Buco Ravioli and Barbecued Shrimp for appetizers. For dinner we all went filet, I went for the surf and turf (after my $50 score) which I thought was great despite da $25 extra they tacked on for a 7oz lobster. Cmon cuz 7oz for $25. Tina got hers covered wit crab meat which was a nice touch and “Fonzie” got his wit a side of shrimp. In addition, we also got a few side dishes one which was also of note, if you hit Ruth’s Chris get da Peas Au Gratin…dey are outstanding. For dessert a little Crème Brulee and then we was on our way back to the bar to grab another drink. Not only was da food good but da service was top notch (besides them forgetting my raviolis) and aesthetically speaking da place inside is dynamite. I even got a hot coffee wit my da end of my meal, so I was happy. Guess what, for a place that is corporate and I usually don’t hit up, Ruth’s Chris is ok. So if you got a dough to drop a few extra and you are looking for a steak hit Ruth’s Chris you won’t be disappointed.
When da bill came I almost had a heart attack, thank da lord I grabbed dat extra $50 from dat chump. Dis place is expensive, even on restaurant week. Downtown Center City, $13 for a glass of wine, I should have seen the warning signs.
Valet, you can’t beat it. Actually…you can, there is plenty of parking lots right on Broad Street if you don’t want anyone touching your IROC.
