Hey, yo! Lemme ask you a question. What’s the deal wit da size of my belly, the price of booze and stadium parking….nuttin thats ever gonna change! You know what else? Long as I can get my hands on some the best food Philly has to offer, I am gonna let you in da skinny, which lets be honest, doesn’t reflect me. So here I am with another one of philly’s unique spots, John’s who tout themselves as “the birthplace of Larry Fine”. Now as you may or may not know, I am as big a fan of da Stooges as anyone and to be perfectly honest Larry, well he ain’t no slouch. “Porcupine’s” birthplace features some outside seating which is a nice bonus durin dem hot summer days and when you wanna stare at all da tourists broads who can’t afford to hit da shore. Personally, I don’t think it holds a torch to the Wildwood beaches in the summer but after that episode with animal control where I was hit with a tranquilizer and almost drown, cause they thought I was a bear, da shore is no longer an option for me. Soon as I get in dis joint I am starin straight at da bar which has a couple of stools and some tv’s in case you wanna catch a day time soap or da eagles game. Not my first choice to come watch a sporting event but hey, its da thought that counts. Da dining area is nuttin like my mutha’s basement its warmly lit also has tv’s (which is key fellas when you have to check da scores of your games) So after I demanded my dewers on da rocks I was handed a menu that made war and peace look like da south philly review. Not to say dis is bad at all, I mean, I like variety as much as da next guy, especially when I comes to food and booze. So I started wit da spinach and artichoke dip which really goes good with a tall glass of whisky. I also ordered myself a pizza and a roastbeef au jus for my lunch entrée. When the waitress gave me a weird look I told her I had a tapeworm I was feeding and I was real hungry. Long story longer, da food was pretty decent and I got to catch some decent time away from my rents and boys down on da cawna. I got to say though although dis place was good mid-winter I have been here mid-august and I hate to say the service is a lot worse when it is busy. Like take for instance, I had dis broad wit me (she shall remain nameless) and she got one of deez fruity drinks and she couldn’t even drink it, well after the second batch of bullshit I got out of my seat real quick to confront da bartender and I knocked over one of dem torches dey have out there on da deck. Well after the stop drop and roll episode I had wit da guy next to me, I decided to perform my best exit stage right and I got stuck tryin to jump that waist high fence that surrounds the patio. Tell you the truth, I am surprised deez guys let me back in dis joint.
Dis place ain't dat bad on your wallet, its about on par wit da rest of South Street. So be prepared if you are a fat bastard like me to drop a few twenties.
Lemme me do this again, straight up the parking directly off of south street is not a very good one. There is a couple of lots in the area but they all cost dough. Parking on the street (if you are lucky enough to find one) is mostly two hours as it is. Everyone knows it takes longer then two hours for me to eat, so this is a problem.
